What Is Technique Fusion?

As your cultivation realm advances in Destiny of Immortal, individual techniques and spells are no longer the ceiling of combat customization. The game allows you to fuse different gongfa (功法) — merging compatible arts into unified ultimate abilities that combine their effects, elemental tags, and Dantian footprints. Press coverage and the Steam store page describe this as creating "your own signature ultimate technique" through mid-to-late game progression.

Fusion sits on top of the core Dantian puzzle system. You still arrange techniques as spatial pieces with Generating, Merging, and Overcoming resonance — fusion adds a meta layer where selected pairs or triplets combine into new composite shapes with hybrid bonuses.

When Fusion Unlocks

Technique fusion becomes available during mid-to-late game progression on the Luocha Island route — typically after Core Formation (结丹) when your Dantian grid has expanded enough to accommodate composite pieces. Early Qi Refining and Foundation play focuses on collecting individual Huang and Xuan tier techniques; fusion rewards players who diversified their library through soul search, sect learning, and secret realm loot rather than committing to a single mono-element stack from Chapter 1.

How Fusion Interacts with the Dantian

Fused techniques occupy Dantian space like any other piece, but their shapes reflect the combined source arts:

• Composite footprints: A fusion of a Metal burst art and a Water speed spell may create an elongated shape triggering both Merging (same-element subsets) and Generating (Metal-Water cycle adjacency) bonuses depending on placement
• Action bar slots: Fused abilities appear as single action bar entries combining multi-hit, debuff, and sustain effects from source techniques
• Resonance recalculation: Every fusion requires rebuilding adjacent resonance chains — a powerful fused piece that breaks your Generating loop may net negative DPS

Recommended Fusion Strategies by Element

• Metal: Fuse single-target burst with armor-break debuffs for boss phase transitions. Pairs well with Golden Spear Art derivatives.
• Water: Combine speed-stacking spells with multi-hit finishers for extra-turn loops. See Water Build.
• Earth: Merge shield generators with counter-attack triggers for over-level survivability. See Earth Build.
• Fire: Fuse AoE burn setups with single-target finishers — note EA balance reduced pure AoE dominance vs demo builds.
• Wood: Merge recovery chains with attrition spells for secret realm endurance runs.

Community EA feedback confirms all five elements can cross realm gaps with smart fusion and Dantian planning — mono-element stacks are no longer mandatory after balance passes.

Fusion vs Individual Techniques

Not every technique should be fused. Keep small-footprint utility spells (Fireball Art, concealment methods, Blood Pressure Pill triggers) as standalone pieces for grid flexibility. Fuse only when the composite bonus exceeds the sum of individual slots plus lost resonance adjacency.

Shiling Pearl users with large technique libraries from soul search have more fusion options but must manage grid congestion. Shennong Cauldron users with fewer stolen arts may fuse earlier with smaller libraries but lack exotic combo pieces.
