How to Beat Liu Bohu

Who Is Liu Bohu?

Liu Bohu (刘搏虎) is a Foundation Establishment cultivator who ambushes you automatically upon entering Shanyin Pass (山阴关隘) during Chapter 2. You are still Qi Refining — this is the game's signature over-level fight testing preparation over reflexes. Liu Bohu cannot be avoided, skipped, or talked past. Every Shanyin County route player must defeat him or F8 reload.

The fight is fair with proper preparation. Community clears consistently report success within five save-scum attempts when Blood Pressure Pills and optimized Dantians are ready. Liu Bohu's loot — especially Canjin Art and soul-searchable Golden Spirit Swift Sky Art — justifies the difficulty.

Pre-Fight Checklist

Do not enter Shanyin Pass until every item is checked:

• Blood Pressure Pill (降压药): Minimum one. Removes Foundation-realm suppression debuff. Without this, Liu Bohu's realm pressure cripples your stats to near-zero.
• Full HP with healing pills on action bar: 2–3 healing doses for emergency recovery.
• Demon Slaughter Cave complete: Blood Devouring Demonic Art grants +150 permanent max HP.
• Best weapon equipped: Thunderbolt Sword or highest available spell-attack weapon.
• Dantian optimized: Metal burst or Earth shield layout — see Dantian guide.
• F8 save at Shanyin Pass entrance: Reload freely on failure.

Build-Specific Strategies

Metal Burst (Fastest Kill)

Stack spell attack through Golden Spear Art, Canjin Art prep (post-fight drop), and Metal buff spells. Open with Blood Pressure Pill, then burst Liu Bohu before he acts twice. Metal's single-target deletion excels here. See Metal Build.

Earth Shield (Most Consistent)

Stack shields with Earth Armor Art, refresh between Liu Bohu's attacks, counter-damage during gaps. Slower than Metal but tolerates mistakes. See Earth Build.

Water Speed (Alternative)

Hidden Spirit Art Speed advantage can grant extra turns. Chain low-cost spells before Liu Bohu recovers. Requires Speed investment from Yunhai Town timed quest.

Combat Turn Sequence

1. Turn 1: Use Blood Pressure Pill from action bar. Verify suppression debuff removed.
2. Turn 2+: Execute your build's primary damage or shield cycle. Prioritize ending the fight within 5–6 turns.
3. Emergency: Healing pill if HP drops below 30%. Do not waste turns on buffs you cannot maintain.

Liu Bohu fights on the same action-bar system as you. Watch the turn order display — if he acts before your burst connects, adjust Speed investment or open with a faster spell.

Post-Fight Loot

• Canjin Art (灿金诀): Guaranteed drop — essential Metal scaling for all builds
• Golden Spirit Swift Sky Art (金灵疾空术): Soul search with Shiling Pearl
• Equipment and spirit stones: Chapter 3 gearing baseline

After Liu Bohu, proceed to Liuyun Secret Realm for Dao Foundation Fruit before considering Heavenly Foundation breakthrough.

When to Retry vs When to Rebuild

If Liu Bohu defeats you repeatedly, diagnose before reloading:

• Died in 1–2 turns: Missing Blood Pressure Pill or suppression still active. Verify pill use on turn 1.
• Died after 4+ turns: Insufficient damage or sustain. Rebuild Dantian or upgrade weapon before retrying.
• Lost to critical hit spike: Stack more armor or shields. Earth builds should refresh shields every 2 turns.
• Ran out of action bar resources: Add lower Energy cost spells or stamina pills to your layout.

Five failed attempts with the same layout means the layout is wrong — not bad luck. Return to Build Tier List recommendations and regear before attempt six.

Wuyin Sea Route Note

Players who chose the south Wuyin Sea route avoid Liu Bohu entirely — the ambush is Shanyin Pass exclusive. If you are reading this guide on a Wuyin Sea playthrough, you skipped this fight by route design. Your Chapter 2 gear check instead appears at Blood Luo City merchant encounters and overseas Foundation cultivators. The Canjin Art and Golden Spirit Swift Sky Art are still obtainable through alternative NPCs and Deacon Hall quests later in Chapter 3, though the timing differs from Shanyin planners.
