When to Attempt Root Theft

Root theft becomes relevant during Chapter 2 — Foundation Establishment when you enter regional secret realms on the north (Shanyin) or south (Wuyin Sea) routes. Targets are neutral cultivators — not story-critical allies — but killing or robbing them still carries prestige and affinity penalties if detected.

Step-by-Step Theft Workflow

1. Enter the correct Chapter 2 secret realm for your route (north or south)
2. Locate the neutral cultivator — use map fog clearance and regional maps from Black Markets
3. F8 save immediately before initiating combat or theft dialogue
4. Win combat or use suppression if your realm exceeds theirs (post-Foundation) — Realm Suppression Farming
5. Activate Shiling Pearl soul search / theft on the defeated or subdued target
6. Confirm the root element spread matches your build plan before accepting integration

Build Planning After Theft
